Cave la Vinsobraise Ambre

About This Wine:
The Cave in Vinsobres is a cooperative winery. Vinsobres is located at the top of a mountain and provides south-facing slopes at higher altitudes that allow production of high-quality grapes. Because of this terrain and its reputation for quality, Vinsobres is the first village in the Drôme to receive a Cru designation for its wines. This is the highest designation available for villages and requires the producers to restrict the numbers of acres of production to maintain quality. While wines from Vinsobres are available throughout Europe, the Cave's wines have never been exported to the U.S. Pascal Monier, Director of the Cave, is the second generation of his family to run it -- he took over from his father and has been the driving force behind the AOC's awarding of cru status to Vinsobres. Cuvée Ambre is made from 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah. Light-bodied, but it's got an intriguing light fruitiness that you don't find in the other Vinsobraise cru reds. That makes it a great aperitif on its own as well as pairing with red-wine foods, both simple and elegant.

Note:  2015 is the final vintage of Ambre for the cave -- Pascal decided to focus on the wines he decided best represented the terroir of Vinsobres.  So once it's gone, it's gone; get it while you can!
