Domaine Fond Croze is the culmination of the work of three generations of the Long Family. Charles Long first purchased the land after returning from World War I. His son, Raymond, expanded the vineyards once he started full-time in the business. Today, Raymond’s sons Bruno (the winemaker) and Daniel (the vineyard manager) produce wine at Domaine Fond Croze, which Raymond, Bruno, and Daniel began officially in 1997. It’s truly a family business – any and all of the family is likely to be at the cave when you go to visit. If you’re really lucky, Bruno will take you up to where the aging barrels are stored and you can try some of the Syrah right from the barrel. The Longs produce a wide range of wines from Vin du Pays Principaute Orange to Côtes du Rhône Villages.

The Cuvée Confidence Côtes du Rhône red (70% Grenache, 30% Syrah) is a classic red of the region, easy to drink, a great balance of earthiness, fruit, spice, and tannin. "My new front porch wine," is how one customer described it, and that's exactly right -- warm, friendly, and welcoming. This is the 2007 version of the 2005. 2007 was a spectacular year in this part of the world, and we think it's even better than the 2005. Here's what Robert Parker had to say: "Its dark ruby color is accompanied by attractive, dusky, earthy, black cherry, tobacco leaf, and spice notes."
