TerraVentoux was created in 2003 from the merger of two village cooperative wineries in the Côtes du Ventoux: Les Roches Blanches in Mormoiron and La Montagne Rouge in Villes-sur Auzon. These wineries had sold good wines in bulk to other entities for redistribution, but without their own identities. TerraVentoux has taken advantage of the clean slate to launch a line of wines designed to appeal to various tastes based on the older wineries’ good practices. The results are encouraging, and First Vine is the first in the DC area carrying their wines. Terres des Truffes Côtes du Ventoux Red contains 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah, and was created as an homage to the region’s truffle production, in consultation with a famous local chef. It has ripe fruit aromas and flavors with a hint of licorice and spice, and a finish of fruit and moderate tannin. Try it with dishes containing truffles (omelets, potatoes, etc) if you have them, or red meats, cheeses, and roasted vegetables.
