Orders, delivery and such for Washington, DC delivery: First Vine can hand-deliver to any address (home or office) in Washington, DC where you are allowed to receive packages containing alcohol.

Once an order is placed for delivery in Washington, DC, we will contact you or the recipient you specify to arrange for delivery.  We can deliver anytime between 9 am and 9 pm, Monday through Saturday.  We schedule deliveries at your convenience within those hours.  However, we can't just leave a package for you if you (or someone you designate) isn't there to receive the wine.  We are required by DC law to hand the wine to a person over 21 and to check for ID, so please have a valid ID available.

Delivery in Washington, DC is free for orders of six bottles or more, and $5.00 for fewer than six bottles.  We also offer free will-call/pickup in DC (see Will-call/pickup option, below).

A few things to keep in mind:

-- You must be 21 or older to order wine.

-- Whoever receives the wine must be 21 or older and will have to sign for the wine. We are required to show that we obtained proof of ID if there is any question about this.  Please take it as a compliment if we ask you to show ID.

-- If you're drunk when the wine shows up, you will not be allowed to receive it. Seriously.

-- We are not allowed to leave packages of wine on your doorstep, or even hidden in the bushes.  And even if you live in an apartment building and can buzz us in, we can't leave the wine outside your door.  The wine must be handed to a person over 21.

-- It's fine to use a business address as your shipping address if you're allowed to receive deliveries there, especially if you work in DC.

-- We are not allowed to deliver to DC or federal government buildings.

--  If you are ordering wine as a gift, we'll do our best to let you know it was delivered.

Outside of Washington, DC?  We use a storage/shipping fulfillment company that ships by Fedex Ground or UPS Ground to these states:

A few things to keep in mind about delivery outside of Washington, DC:

-- Fedex and UPS generally attempt delivery no later than 5 pm, which may be an issue for home delivery.  The driver makes three attempts at delivery over three successive days, leaving a notification sticker if delivery was attempted unsuccessfully.  Since both Fedex and UPS require delivery signatures of someone over 21 for alcohol, packages cannot be left without delivery to an actual person over 21.  If you get a notification sticker and can't be available for delivery the next day, you can contact the shipping company at the telephone number on the sticker to redirect the package to a new address or to a Fedex or UPS pickup location.  Neither Fedex nor UPS is allowed to leave packages containing alcohol on your doorstep or hidden in the bushes, the packages must be signed for by someone over 21.

-- If you are ordering more than 12 bottles, please contact us for a shipping rate quote.

-- It takes anywhere between one and five business days for wine to be delivered by UPS or Fedex Ground.  We generally ship on Mondays to prevent the wine from spending time in a truck or warehouse over a weekend, although sometimes this is unavoidable.  For shipments to Maryland or Virginia, we can ship Monday through Thursday.

-- Please keep in mind that Fedex and UPS do not transport wine in refrigerated trucks, so wines ordered and shipped in summer months may be subject to high temperatures.

--  We will e-mail you your Fedex or UPS tracking code for your package as soon as we have it available.

-- If ground shipment will take longer than you'd like, we can offer shipment by air. Please contact us for rates.

Problem bottles:  Bottles of wine may occasionally be oxidized or spoiled.  We do our best to make sure the wine will be drinkable.  If you get a bottle that has spoiled, please contact us for a replacement.  If you're in Washington, DC, please also save the wine bottle with some wine in it for us so we can better understand the problem.
